Island adventure day! Part 1

Today was another hot sunny summer day on the Island.  It was a perfect day to ride up Island and visit Parksville to see the Sandcastles.  Every year Parksville holds an amazing competition a people come from all over the world to create these beautiful works of art.  Motorcycle Man and I met up with my friend Deb & off we went.

The theme for this years competition was fairy tales.  It was incredible to see these beautiful sculptures in the sand.

They have a large stickpin map where visitors put pins to show where they are from.  Very cool!

This one was 'Rub a dub dub 3 men in a pub' there appears to be a 4th person. :)

'My precious' Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

Loved this pic, this cute little pink scoot nestled in amongst all this moto testosterone.

Beautiful old cars at the vintage show.

Pacific Marine Circle Loop Part 2 - Twisties

When you see these signs with posted speeds on the route it's best to heed them.  Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the switchbacks because I was too busy riding them.  You will just have to take my word on this, it was AWESOME!  In most spots it is too narrow and too dangerous to park the bike and walk back to take pictures.  I need to get a ram mount for a camera it plunk the GoPro in my helmet.

Just threw this one in here because it pretty much sums up how we were feeling.    :)

We wound our way through the breathtaking Cowichan Valley towards Lake Cowichan.

At one point I had my bike leaned so far over in a tight switchback that it felt like I was parallel to the ground and my peg was scraping and all I could think was "Wow this is me riding this bike?!" I will always remember that moment.

We stopped at the Visitors Centre to relax and eat.   It is everything a small town is famous for quaint and friendly.

Lake Cowichan is one of the many small logging towns in the island.

Finally the end if the journey is back down the Island Highway to home.

Yesterday I rode 259 kilometres which is about 161 miles.  It may not sound like a lot but when it is on twisty roads with lots of switchbacks it's enough.

Today I am kicking back and chilling out.  Hmmm I wonder where my next moto mama adventure will take me, I know there will be twisties involved.  :) heart singing with anticipation.

Pacific Marine Circle Route - Means TWISTIES baby!

The beginning of the adventure.

Today was a moto adventure day.  I was out the door by 8:00am and meeting up with a moto mama friend Cindy.  We were doing 'The Loop'.  The weather forecast looked promising with sun and 70 degree temps.
Cindy and I waiting to see if anyone was going to tag along.  When we pulled up there were beautiful vintage cars parked at a local restaurant.  I couldn't resist snapping some pics.

We waited for a bit but it turned out it was just the two of us which was awesome, we always have a ton of fun together.  So off we went.  It takes about 5-6 hours to do the Loop.  It is out in the boonies and there are very few services along the way.  Here is the Loop map.

Our first stop was Sooke.  As we were approaching you could see a heavy layer of marine fog/cloud.  It can also be very chilly on this side of the island, my mesh jacket wasn't cutting it, thank goodness I brought layers.

Next stop Jordan River, this is the beginning of the Loop and wicked twisties.

There are several one lane bridges and it is twisty paradise!  The switchbacks are awesome and challenging.  This is a route in which you follow the road signs and posted speed.  It is pretty isolated and there is no cell service, so if you get into trouble you have to wait until someone comes along to help.  Its also an active logging area, so you have to be vigilant and attentive to your surroundings.

The weather in the morning was cold, misty, and foggy. BRRRRR!

Happy 1st Birthday Pupzilla

Pupzilla turned a year old today, so she had her birthday treat with a candle.

Motorcycle Man took her for her first ride - she loved it! She fits quite nicely into the tank bag.

I love you Roolly!
